How To Use Retargeting Pixel With Facebook Advertising

If you’ve ever searched for a product on a site like Amazon you will probably have subsequently been followed around the internet with adverts for that product. Congratulations, you've just been retargeted.

The process is called retargeting or remarketing, and it is a powerful way to convert searchers into buyers. At the recent Social Media and Marketing Show in Edinburgh, Blue Cliff Media's Gavin Bell explained how any business can use this clever technique to get more sales when they advertise on Facebook.

Watch the recording of Gavin Bell's seminar where he takes time to explain how to create and use Facebook retargeting pixel.

Briefly the process goes like this.

Step 1

Create the Facebook pixel for your website or landing page. You might think because we are talking about a pixel that this will involve creating some kind of graphic. Well that's not the case. The Facebook Pixel is a little bit of Javascript code that you need to place in the header tags of your website. If you did not create your website you just pass that Javascript code to the person or company that did and they can do that technical mumbo jumbo. If however you created your own Wordpress site then get a plugin called Pixel My Site and it will do the work for you.

Step 2

The next step is to of create a custom audience on Facebook. Although you can create your audience from a customer list, App activity and Engagement on Facebook, in this case you need to choose Website traffic.

Step 3

Set up the ad and choose the website custom audience you created. When designing your Ad you could use a simple graphic but by creating a video you will stand out from the noise on Facebook.

Step 4

Finally, submit your Ad. Once it is running anyone who visits your website will then be served your Ad. Remarketing helps your business stand above the majority of SMEs out there because most SMEs are not using the technique. It is therefore a great way to get ahead of your competition.
